This interesting tour begins with an easy 30 to 40 minute local dhow ride from Stone Town. The crystal clear waters and fantastic views of Stone Town, from the sea, make the boat ride very enjoyable.
This historical island was used for the confinement of slaves in the late 1800’s. The jail itself was built in 1893. A brief tour of the prison is informative and affords fantastic photographic opportunities.
Another main attraction of the island is the population of giant tortoises. Guests are allowed to feed and touch the tortoises. There are also guinea fowl, peacocks and suni buck wondering around.
There is a restaurant and bar on the island for light refreshments.
